If your four bedroom walls are white and you’re feeling the room is a little stale, breathe new life into it by making it over with romance in mind.
In honor of August being Romance Awareness Month, turn your bedroom into a soft, inviting place to be by following the eight tips below.
Turn or take the TV out of the room. You might want to do the same with cell phones – they can charge in another room overnight. This reduces the number of things you’re tempted to do in the bedroom, taking out distractions that get in the way of your love life.
Now that you’ve gotten rid of the technological distractions in the bedroom, it’s time to remove some more things from the room. Fewer decorations will be less distracting for you, but you don’t need bare, white walls. Try to make the decorations things that personalize the room for the two of you, bringing up the happy feelings from your relationship.
Some scents work well as aphrodisiacs, such as lavender, jasmine, sandalwood, and cedarwood. Using an oil diffuser is an easy to get those scents in the air. Candles are also an option, since they help with the scent and getting the lighting just right.
A harsh overhead light doesn’t help anyone. Candles are one source of soft light, which you can supplement with a couple adjustable lamps. You’ll want beige, tan, or off-white shades on those lamps, not bright white; the idea is to make the lighting soft and comfortable, not harsh and bright.
He’s Hot; She’s Cold: How to Compromise Your Apartment Temperature
Purchase luxury silk or sateen (typically cotton) sheets in at least 400-thread count that invite you to go to bed early, and top them with a quilt, which makes you want to curl up and get cozy. Quilts also evenly distribute heat, which may make you and your partner want to snuggle under the covers. You also want fluffed up pillows and a well-made bed; the nicest bedding doesn’t help if everything is a mess.
Cozy Winter Bedding That’s Make You Want to Hibernate
Make your bed a canopy bed by attaching sheer fabric over your bed to a hook on the wall above your headboard. Hang sheer curtains in gauzy fabrics such as linen or silk over the windows, which will give your bedroom the feeling of an Arabian palace.
Restaurants have long figured out certain colors of the walls invokes the appetites of their patrons. The same is true for stoking a fire in the bedroom – only don’t use the same colors as fast-food restaurants. Instead, paint your walls lavender, sage green or light to cornflower blue to invoke feelings of relaxation and balance in your bedroom.
It’s easy to forget music, but few things can set the scene better. A subtle music player on the night table (this isn’t the place for a subwoofer) playing just the right music can do wonders for setting the mood.
